Rural Route To Nowhere...

Okay, so maybe I'm a little nuts and have an overactive imagination, but doesn't this photo look like something we've all seen?

On the north side of Ridge Road at Le Rustique

To me, this looks like a mailbox post on a rural route, minus the mailbox. And if you look beyond this one (at about 1:00), there's another one just like it.

As soon as I saw these my imagination created a little story about the animal families that used to get their mail along this ridge, before powerful straight-line winds came roaring through and wiped out their little rural community. I wonder where they've moved to and where they get their mail now?

If you'd like to add a bit to this goofy story line, please feel free to do so. Let me know I'm not the only one who's afflicted by anthropomorphism.

  1. You're not alone. You did great with this shot. Is Christopher Robinson's friends somewhere in the forest?

  3. I've found some interesting things in the forest here too. There's an old stone foundation from someones home from who knows when. I've always wanted to explore it, but it's kind of creepy and grown over.

Your photo is very interesting and a little dark and mysterious. Isn't it funny how we all think something different. You see cute and cuddly and I see something totally the opposite. It's a great photo no matter how you see it.

  4. Karen, just to the right of this is what we call Ridge Road. It's a fairly open area that used to be an old logging road. It's not really dark there, so not scary at all.

Get yourself a big flashlight and big stick, make a lot of noise to scare away any snakes or mice (is that what inhabits an old stone foundation?), and make your husband go with you - but go in there!

  5. Yes, I can see the mailboxes, but then I grew up with that kind of thing :)
It looks like there is a trail along side too. Must be larger animals, it's a bit high for Hobbits :)
I have a photo my son took and I will post it on my blog in a couple of days, looks like a dragon.
Thanks for stopping by for a visit to my blog :)

    1. I'm afraid if I saw a dragon, even in silhouette, I'd never venture into the woods again. Can't wait to see that post!
